Milky Way and Let's go Barbie nominated for multiple theater and dance awards
It's award season! And we couldn't be more proud! Milky Way (8+), our performance about big questions and lonely chocolate bars, wins a Zilveren Krekel (prestigious theater award) for the most impressive youth theater production of 2024, and is therefore automatically nominated for a Gouden Krekel. It is also nominated for a Young Swan as the most impressive youth dance production. Gwen Langenberg has been nominated for a Young Swan for most impressive youth dance performance for her role in Pinocchio Effect (10+). Let's go Barbie (8+), who has yet to start her plastic fantastic tour, has already been nominated for the BNG Bank Theater Award!
The BNG Bank Theater Award is the award for the best performance of the 2023/2024 season by an emerging theater maker that will be awarded at the BNG Bank Theater Day on Friday, September 6th 2024, during the Dutch Theater Festival. The winner of the Gouden Krekel, the VSCD Youth Theater Award, will be announced at the Gala of the Dutch Theater on Sunday, September 15th. The Swans will be awarded during the Dutch Dance Days Gala on Friday, October 4th.
The VSCD theater jury about Milky Way:
"Freek Nieuwdorp makes his debut performance with Milky Way, and it is an immediate hit. The collaboration with dancers and choreographers (in addition to Srisayam and Put, Pia Meuthen and Sara Giampaolo also worked behind the scenes) produces an extremely imaginative montage performance, in which interesting facts about the universe and references to science fiction films and games predominate. The way in which the three performers support each other makes the performance a touching hommage to young friendship - or if you interpret the dancers as 'invisible friends', an ode to the imagination, with which we can sustain ourselves in times of loneliness."
The VSCD dance jury about Milky Way:
"Imagination and humor are given ample opportunity in this production, which is well thought through in every way. A lonely boy fantasizes that he is traveling into space with two imaginary friends. Actor Freek Nieuwdorp and dancers Art Srisayam and Arnold Put let the spectator look at the grandeur of the universe with childlike wonder."
The BNG Bank Theater Prize jury about Let's go Barbie:
“With Let's go Barbie, Sue-Ann Bel and Hali Neto have created an impressive performance that captivates young people and adults. Complex themes such as freedom and conformity are woven into the performance in a seemingly effortless way. The makers succeed in showing how the toy can be both a straitjacket and a source of freedom. The combination of playful elements and a serious undertone creates a dynamic experience that makes the audience think. With Let's go Barbie, Sue-Ann Bel and Hali Neto show that they are ready for more.”
Let's go Barbie will be back in theaters in fall 2025. Tickets will be available from June 2025.
