IN SHORT
In LOVE ME BY THE HOUR, we explore the diverse perspectives of sex workers and their clients, moving away from stereotypes. This musical movement performance offers a multifaceted view of paid intimacy, based on real experiences from the world of sex work.

LOVE ME BY THE HOUR is spoken in Dutch. There will be English surtitles during the performance, making it suitable for people who do not speak Dutch.

It sounds like a twisted fairy tale: the woman who needs to be rescued and the sleazy man. Yet, this remains the dominant image of sex workers and their clients in our society. Due to the taboo and limited representation surrounding paid intimacy, there is little room for the diverse perspectives of those who are part of the world of sex work themselves. A world that they know cannot be captured in just one image.

From quick encounters and pure desire to special long nights and intimate relationships, what makes the relationship between a sex worker and a client unique? Based on the experiences of sex workers and their clients, the performance LOVE ME BY THE HOUR unfolds a much broader view of sex work. Moving beyond the cliché of the red light, we shine a spotlight on those for whom intimacy—whatever the reason—comes down to supply and demand. With blushing ears but without shame, this musical movement performance is an ode to the many forms of paid intimacy.

About Speels Collectief

Speels Collectief is a diverse, mixed-abled theater company. We question norms, seek wonder, and embrace the unusual. The company works from each individual's capabilities and limitations to create theater. People who are underrepresented or scarcely represented are given a platform. This shifts perceptions, including those regarding current themes such as inclusion and participation. Through art, we seek openness and wonder. We assemble our groups to be as diverse as possible to present a wide range of perspectives. By placing these perspectives side by side, we question the norm. At the same time, we aim to expand opportunities for our performers to participate in the cultural world.
