WE / 8+

From August 24 to September 1, 2024, the performance WE (8+) will be staged at the Maaspodium. The performance is a theatrical journey through the venue, exploring the power of change. A group of Rotterdam children delves into the very fibers of the theater and takes charge of a professional production. They participate in all departments, from performer to director, from costumes to technical work.

Everything in life moves and changes. The earth spins. The sun turns red. The sand blows away. My tears fall. The sea waves. A mother moves. A family flees. I sometimes grow a whole centimeter in one night. My secret is revealed. You are different, and I am different, and that is our superpower.

But what if you find change scary? If you want everything to stay the same? Or what if you are not allowed to change?

WE is a theatrical adventure through the Maaspodium. Together, we explore the power and tensions of big and small changes, moving from space to space. Everything in the building becomes a stage for spoken word, film, dance, and live music. As an audience member, you help build an artwork that changes through your participation. Because one thing is certain: the power to change something—big or small—exists as a superpower within yourself.
