Why So Serious? is a collaboration between Blqck a queer aesthetic, and Maas theater and dance. In this series, Blqck and Maas join forces with the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and queer community to create programs aimed at breaking free from old (Western) structures such as racism and capitalism. We explore new ways of being together through art projects, interactive installations, challenging conversations, and educational workshops.

In this series, each program has a unique trajectory with the goal of creating an inclusive, decolonial artistic space. Curious? Keep an eye on this page for all events and feel welcome to join.

Blqck x Maas is made possible with support from the VSB Fonds and Fonds 21 EXTRA.

About Blqck a queer aesthetic

Blqck is a platform developed by Sarah Jawla with and for the BIPOC queer community. It is a movement that goes beyond just a way of working and thinking. Blqck aims to create safer social spaces where we dare to reconnect with one another. Blqck achieves this by conceptualizing, guiding, and creating art projects from queer-minded perspectives.

These projects focus on new ways of being, centered on collaborations with cultural spaces in dialogue with the BIPOC queer community.

Blqck Tent

The Blqck Tent is a queer-minded interactive installation where you go through three steps: meeting, playing, and aftercare.
